My new PS3 is giving me problems!!! NEED HELP AND ADVICE!!!!?
I got a new PS3 3 weeks ago with 2 games, Infamous and Resistance 2. Then I borrowed FIFA 10 from a friend. When I play online head to head or team play it keeps freezing then unfreezing. Thought it was my internet! However played lots of other games online with no problems with the exception of Hawx2 which would freeze online and offline.
Then I bought FIFA 11, same thing happened when i tried to play online. So switched my internet off and had a normal two player game with a mate but it continued to freeze then unfreeze. Thought it could be the game so tried it on his PS3, it worked fine online and offline!! I spoke to Playstation customer support who told me to do a Full Format. 16 hours later the formatting was still only at 1%!! Why is this happening its a right royal pain in the A……
You could have a variety of problems. I would suggest you try the least expensive and risky fixes first, such as using a lens or disk cleaner.
1) Check to see if its only Game Disks that freeze during play. If so is the case i would say that your lens is going bad. Only thing is that you said you got your PS3 not too long ago. My FIFA 10 starting freezing some time ago, but then when i ran a few troubleshooters i found out that my lens was going bad. I ordered a replacement from ebay, installed it myself, and everything worked fine thereafter. If you are under warranty DO NOT OPEN YOUR PS3. Do repairs through Sony.
2) Formatting takes over 16HRS. Assuming that you have a 120 GB or 160 GB hard drive i don’t see the possibility of a healthy hard drive taking that long to format. This could indicate a bad hard drive as well.
3) Freezing can also indicate a faulty file system which you could remedied by doing a “Restore System File”

4) Poor internet connection usually results in lag time, and the game skipping, so its least likely (not impossibly) that your internet connection is posing your freezing problem.
